Orthotics Competitive Bidding Resource Center

The Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics and Supplies (DMEPOS) Competitive Bidding Program was mandated by Congress in 2003 for Medicare to set more reasonable payment rates, save money for beneficiaries and taxpayers, and limit fraud and abuse while ensuring access to quality items and services.

Round 2021 of the DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program began January 2021 and will run through December 31, 2023. Medicare beneficiaries needing off-the-shelf (OTS) spine and knee braces listed in the program in the Competitive Bidding Areas (CBAs) must obtain them from qualified suppliers that have been awarded contracts from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
